The Saqlawieh strain in the Royal Stud is represented by two different lines of the family, Saqlawieh Hamra and Saqlawieh Riadh.

In 1939 a Saqlawieh mare in foal was brought as a gift from King Abdul Aziz Al-Saud to Shaikh Hamed bin Isa (1874-1942). The foal, a filly , later became the personal mount of Sir Charles Belgrave who named it Oleander for her beautiful pink-chestnut coat. Oleander was mated to Speckled Jellaby Althaani and she had a filly, Saqlawieh bint Oleander. Bint Oleander lived to a ripe old age and she had several offspring by the different stallions standing at stud over the years. Unfortunately this line is lost now.

Saqlawieh Hamra had no colourful history, while Saqlawieh Riadh was bred in Saudi Arabia by Emir Bender bin Sultan Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, who specialised in this particular strain . Saqlawieh with her own sire Hamdaany Riyadh was presented to His Highness Shaikh Isa (1933-1999) in 1964 from The Amir of Riyadh, Sulman bin Abdulla Aziz Al-Saud.
